Layup adhesive for vacuum infusion

By Staff | February 2008

Power Adhesives Ltd. (Basildon, U.K.) has developed the VAC-TAC system, a solvent-free alternative to the aerosol adhesives commonly used to fix reinforcements in place for vacuum infusion processes. The system includes VAC-TAC adhesive, a TEC 6300 spray-type hot-melt glue gun, a 6m/19.7-ft hose, and a wheeled toolbox/carrying case. Supplied in hot melt cartridge form, the adhesive is formulated for use with reinforcement fabrics, foam and balsa core, bleeders, breathers, peel plies and release films. The glue gun requires air and electric power supplies. The adhesive is melted inside the glue gun chamber and sprayed directly onto the substrate. Materials can be bonded instantly, although the adhesive remains tacky for as long as five minutes. Several spray patterns and coating widths are available.
