Computer-aided measurement

FARO Technologies Inc. (Orlando, Fla.) has introduced the Fusion FaroArm, a computer-aided measurement arm that the manufacturer says builds on the Quantum FaroArm, but with a lower price and up to 15 percent greater accuracy than the Titanium Series it replaces. The device is operated by guiding the arms touch-probe along the surface of the object to be measured and is said to be accurate to within 0.0014 inch (0.036 mm). Accompanying software simultaneously illustrates the 3-D measurements on screen and records all data. It creates a 3-D blueprint of the part, which can be used for inspections, tool certification, CAD-to-part analysis or reverse engineering.
