SMC for HVAC
By Staff | February 2007
IDI Composites International (Noblesville, Ind.) has developed a new UL-approved SMC (sheet molding compound) specifically for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) market. Dubbed SMC E5V-204, it features good corrosion resistance and is said to be a suitable replacement for air conditioning drain pans made from galvanized sheet metal, which rust during long-term exposure to moisture. The material is UL-94 5V-certified, the highest flame resistance designation available and, according to the company, is therefore able to maintain its structural integrity under exposure to elevated temperatures in furnace equipment installed in homes and businesses.
