General Statement of Duties: This is a senior professional level position based in our Wilmington, MA office that requires creativity, foresight and mature judgment in advancing product applications and participating in "quick response"projects.

This individual is an integral member of the Hardware Engineering team at Gerber Technology supporting the department mission of 1) identifying business opportunities for which engineered solutions can be quickly derived 2) working with sales and product management to identify which opportunities are a best fit for funded development 3) implementing design ideas that can be turned into standard products when the market and profit situation supports the effort.

This individual will research opportunities that are identified through the sales channel or through customer visits. Seek out the best solution among a number of product suites or determines where new development would be required. Participates in new product development to deliver to the market place a new and differentiated product. This individual represents the company before customers and technology partners to identify new opportunities and potential solutions.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in processing of flexible materials chemically bonded into structural parts such as FRP, composite, or dry carbon applied to a variety of applications (sporting goods, aerospace, marine, automotive etc). Also should include knowledge in processing of flexible films (vinyl, pvc, neoprene, etc) that are bonded into medical, military or other applications.

Has ability to apply advanced knowledge to the completion of complex assignments/projects. Is able to communicate with internal/external business and technology groups. Working knowledge of an industry where the parts are not assembled by sewing is a real advantage.

Direction received: Works with minimal technical supervision. Consults with senior management and product management concerning project planning and setting overall objectives, unusual problems and developments, identifying critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.

Reports to: Director of Engineering

Typical duties and responsibilities: Carries out complex assignments in the development of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or scientific methods and approaches

Participates in the planning and testing criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by the team or other internal or external groups. Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed tests, products and experimental methods

May perform as a staff advisor and consultant to a technical specialty

Serves as an influential resource to the company and its customers for problem resolution, meeting customer needs, and for identifying new product development opportunities.

Education requirement, minimum: The successful candidate will have a bachelor's or associate's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Degrees in Physics or Material Science or related field or equivalent related experience will also be considered.

Experience requirement, minimum: Six or more years of progressively complex work experience with strong emphasis on electro-mechanical products. Excellent presentation skills, confident when working with high profile clients, patient and professional. Strong verbal and written communication skills required and an ability to maintain professionalism when handling difficult clients. Ability to handle stressful situations on an on-going basis while maintaining a can-do attitude. Must be flexible and willing to multi-task.
